HOST: RUTH KAMAU
The desire to celebrate Africa is the driving force behind Wasafiri Africa. I grew up in the vibrant, “all things are possible” years of a post-independence Kenya, when self-governance ignited the continent. Through personal and corporate travel, I’ve since had the pleasure of working across Africa. The ingenuity, resilience, and joie de vivre of the people I’ve met cemented my desire to broadcast these encounters and search for more.

My intention is to help dismantle the destructive, post-colonial single narrative of Africa as a "basket case." I am fresh off the boat after nearly two decades in the Cape Town hospitality industry. There, I co-owned and managed iKhaya Lodge & Conference Centre, an award-winning boutique guest house in the heart of the Cape Town.

Engaging in daily, one-on-one conversations with global guests sowed the seeds for Wasafiri Africa. Every discussion led to the same intersection: how do we share the incredible good that already exists here, while creating a space for exposure and growth for both Africans and the global community?

I’ve taken my lifelong love for storytelling—which began as a high school playwright, bloomed in commercial productions in Nairobi, and is now expanding into full-length novel writing—and merged it with my passion for Africa's people and spaces. My hope is that these conversations will ignite a new collective consciousness of what it means to be African today, illuminating the magnificence of this vast, richly resourced continent and her remarkable people.
